If you can’t afford a self storage room, or you don’t think it’s worth the effort because the renovation won’t take that long, then the alternative is to move items around your home. Is this going to be a viable option for people with small spaces? Probably not, but if you can find ways to move furniture from one room into another, then it will protect those pieces from any harm.
Two big ideas here are to move items into your garage or attic. Again, not everyone can do this, but if you’ve got the space, then it definitely lets you keep any valuable items away from the work. It’s only temporary, so perhaps you can deal with a cluttered garage or spare room for a few weeks.
Use Protective Coverings
Sometimes you have no choice but to keep your belongings in the same room. This usually happens when you don’t have any spare space in your home and it’s not practical to move things to a storage facility. In this case the best option is to put protective coverings over your belongings.
Covers aren’t going to protect against physical knocks or sharp objects that may tear fabric, but they will prevent spills and other things from damaging your items. Placing a good sheet over your furniture while someone paints a room or uses a tool that generates lots of dust can be more than enough to protect it from harm.
