The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.
Today we celebrate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence 236 years ago from Great Britain. John Adams wrote these words to his wife prior to its signing:
Mr. Adams was off by a couple of days but his words ring true centuries later.
It is easy to take liberty for granted, when you have never had it taken from you.
Enjoy your family celebrations today – BBQs, beach visits, road trips, firework displays, or even if you’re just taking the day to relax and unwind. Remember the passion and dedication of our Founding Fathers. Think and reflect on what is important in your life. What is it that you’re passionate about? What sacrifices are you willing to make?
Blessings Divas…Have a fantastic 4th!!!
