Five years ago, my family faced a challenging time Five years ago, my family faced a challenging time when I experienced a mental health crisis. My children, then 6 and 11, witnessed a traumatic event that shook our world. As we navigated my recovery, we learned valuable lessons about healing and resilience. For parents helping children cope with trauma, remember the 3 Rs: 1. Reassure: We had open, honest conversations. I let my children ask questions, providing the reassurance she needed. 2. Return to routine: Gradually, we rebuilt our daily routines, creating a sense of normalcy and predictability. 3. Regulate: We sought professional help to learn coping strategies and emotional regulation techniques. Today, we're stronger. By focusing on safe, stable, nurturing relationships, we've built resilience and prevented further adverse experiences. Remember, you're not alone.
