It’s been a long time since I’ve read a love story. I’m glad First Crush Last Love written by Elizabeth McKenna was that story. I’ll be honest when I first started it I just knew I wanted to throttle Jessie – the main character who pined away for a guy who seemed to take their “friendship” for granted throughout high school.
As I got engrossed in their stories, so many memories and realizations set in from my high school days. (Side-note, I was also reminded that our 20 year reunion is less than a year away.) First and foremost, you never know when you’re someone’s lifeline. I believe that people are brought into our lives for various reasons and what is meant to be will be. I promise you, that’s easier for the almost 40-year-old me to say than the love-struck 16-year-old me.
This novel covers so many different areas that a variety of readers can and will relate to – broken marriages, friendships that drift away, domestic violence, abandonment, death, healing, reconciliation, friendships pick right back up and so much more. You’ll feel it all. There were times I wanted to shake some sense into Jessie and times when I could personally relate to the depth of her pain and broken-ness.
First Crush Last Love really did transport me back into the madness that was high school. Most importantly it helped me to recognize and realize just how much growth and transformation has taken place since then on my personal journey from First Crust to Last Love. You’ll love reading how the characters in this novel do the same.

Elizabeth McKenna works as a full-time technical writer/editor for a large software company. Though her love of books reaches back to her childhood, she had never read romance novels until one Christmas when her sister gave her the latest bestseller by Nora Roberts. She was hooked from page one (actually, she admits it was the first love scene). She had always wanted to write fiction, so she combined her love of history, romance and a happy ending to write Cera’s Place and Venice in the Moonlight. Her short story, The Gypsy Casts a Spell, is available for free on her site http://elizabethmckenna.com/. She hopes you will enjoy her first contemporary romance novel, First Crush Last Love, as much as others have enjoyed her historical romances.
Elizabeth lives in Wisconsin with her understanding husband, two beautiful daughters, and a sassy Labrador. When she isn’t writing, working, or being a mom, she’s sleeping.
