Every now and again, your home will start feeling out of date. Fashions move fast and so do you. We all change over time, so it’s no wonder we outgrow our decor choices. If money isn’t an issue, you can move home or renovate completely. Most of us don’t have that freedom, though. When you’re living on a budget, updating isn’t so easy. That’s not to say it’s impossible, though. There’s cheaper action you can take to make your home the way you want it. Here are some examples of what you could do.
Tip 1: Decorate
The most obvious thing you can do to update your home is to decorate. Changing your color scheme can help you fall back in love with your home, and it doesn’t have to cost the earth! Do one room at a time, so that you can keep costs down. You can also keep things cheap by using the same color in more than one room. That way, you don’t have to worry about buying copious amounts of paint. If you choose to decorate in the same colors, take your time choosing. It’s bad enough if you have a colour disaster in one room, let alone the whole house. Take advantage of tester pots. Try out testers on your walls before you choose. Remember that colors often look different once they’ve dried!
Tip 2: Update Carpets
Changing the carpets is another excellent way of updating your home. Carpet gets dirty and faded over time, and can ruin a room in the end. Remember that we’re doing things on a budget here. It’s possible you’ve got wooden flooring under your carpet. Look into how to pull up carpet and see what you find. Under carpet flooring can look excellent with a little sprucing. Or, you could invest in carpet cuttings. You can often find large pieces of carpet offcuts at low prices. Take measurements of your room and see what you can find.
Tip 3: Reupholster Furniture
Replacing furniture can get expensive. The good news is, you don’t have to change your furniture to freshen things up. With a little research, you can learn how to reupholster the pieces you already have. Buy material and get handy with a sewing machine to give your sofa that much needed change. With wooden furniture, a tin of paint and a lick of polish can work wonders. Get creative with your choice of fabric. There are some amazing options out there which could make your home look amazing!
Tip 4: Rearrange
Never underestimate the power of rearranging. Changing the position of the furniture in your home can make it feel like a whole new place! If you’ve been feeling uninspired by your layout, try moving things And the best part? It’s free! This, along with the other points on this list, will be as good as a move. Be careful lifting the heavy stuff, though. You don’t want to ruin all your hard work by having an accident. Scratching that new paint would be a disaster!
