These issues may vary in severity, but undoing them all will prove difficult. Bear in mind that change has never been easy. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth the effort. Think about the worst ways your current situation affects you. Is your addiction damaging your health, mentally or physically? Is your relationship affecting your self-worth? Once you’ve determined the problem, you should have a better idea of how to move on.
The best and fastest way to get out of a bad situation is to remove yourself. That’s not to say you should up and leave for anything. But, if you’ve determined that your position is putting you at risk, it’s important you take drastic action. Going somewhere different is the easiest way to get back to your crossroads. It may seem extreme, but it’s important you cut communication with anyone who is enabling the problem. Stop talking to your ex-partner. Don’t answer the phone to anyone who shares your addiction. There’s a chance that it’s not the one you want to travel. But, it’s a risk we all have to take!
