As we start to get older a lot of things will start to happen in the body. Our muscles won’t be as elastic as they used to be which causes us to become a little slower and weaker. We may experience loss of senses such as hearing and sight, and need aid to stay vigilant.
If you think that you are losing your sense of sound, you will first of all need to take a visit to an ear doctor. They will be able to provide you with help in the form of a hearing aid or may even be able to clear your ear of wax and solve the issue. If you aren’t sure whether you need to visit an ear doctor or not, here are some of the signs to look out for.
Turning things up too loud
One of the most common symptoms of hearing loss is turning up the TV or radio to a high volume in order to hear it. The issue with this is that everyone else in the house will think the sound is way too loud, and it could even be damaging their hearing. If someone in the house points out how loud you’ve got the TV, this is a sign that you need to visit an ear doctor.
Struggling to hear conversations
Perhaps one of the more annoying symptoms of losing your hearing is having to ask people to repeat themselves during a conversation. If you always seem to struggle following a conversation and have to ask what someone has said, the you will want to get your hearing checked out.
Missing phone calls
How many times have you missed a phone call or the doorbell only to realise later in that it had rung? If you do this often, it could mean that you need to get a hearing test, because high pitched noises should be the easiest noises for you to register and hear.
Pointing your head towards a sound
You might have seen this played out on TV plenty of times. An older person will turn their head and cup their ear in order to hear something someone has said. However, you may start doing this without even noticing it. If you notice that you seem to tilt your head or turn your head to hear something, then your hearing may not be up to scratch.
Losing your hearing can have an effect on your confidence. If you can never have a conversation without making people repeat sentences, you may begin to avoid talking to people at all. If you feel as if you have become introverted due to your hearing, you need to get some help.
If you do display any of these symptoms, it is the best thing to get to an ear doctor and take a hearing test. Once you have done this they will be able to help you with your hearing and make sure that you can live a happy and normal life with the people you love.
