You spend hours researching and writing a post and are immensely proud of what you’ve come up with. The piece is interesting and informative, and yet, wonderfully witty. You pick the perfect images for it and position them carefully. You hit publish and expect to see comments, shares, and likes, but instead, nothing happens. It would appear as if no one has even seen your post, let alone taken the time to read it.
If the piece is well written and fits your blog’s niche, the problem isn’t the content, it’s your lack of traffic. As a blogger, I know all too well the importance of growing your blog’s reach and boosting your traffic. There are some bloggers that are happy with a light footfall. However, if you’re someone who likes to dream big, then you’re going to need to know how to boost your traffic to grow your site. Otherwise, all those posts you spend hours on are going to amount to very little.
They say that increasing your blog’s reach is a science and an art. Admittedly, it takes time to build an audience, readers won’t just magically appear. However, if you’re willing to put in the time and effort, you can grow your blog’s reach. It won’t happen overnight, but by taking the right steps, you can increase the traffic that your site is getting and take it to the next level.

1 – Don’t just share a piece once
Studies have shown that the most successful bloggers are the ones that share their blog content more than once. It’s easy to make the mistake of thinking that sharing a blog post once to Twitter, Facebook and Google Plus is all it takes, but that’s not the case. Being active on social media doesn’t just mean sharing your content, there’s a lot more to it than that. If you want to grow your blog’s reach, you need to use social media as a tool for connecting and networking with brands and other bloggers. As well as with your target audience. You need to be getting involved with social media blogger chats and should be using social media on a daily basis.
As well as being active during the day, if you want to reach people in other countries, you also need to be active on social media at night. The best way to do this is to schedule Tweets and updates to go out throughout the night via HootSuite. That way you can ensure that your social media feeds are constantly active. A word to the wise, to ensure that your updates are appealing mix up how you word them. For instance, sometimes updates that simply contain the title of your post and link can work well. Whereas, other times asking a question or sharing an interesting fact that links to the post you want to share can work well.
3 – Collaborate with other bloggers
Look out for other blogs that are similar to yours and contact the blog owner to ask about collaborating with them. Ideally, you want to look for blogs that have a similar reach to yours, to make it a useful collaboration for both yourself and the other blogger. By collaborating with other bloggers in similar niches to you, you can help to increase your blog’s traffic and reach. It’s just a case of taking the time to work out the best methods of collaboration.
Guest blogging tends to be quite popular. This is where you both write posts for each other’s sites, and pop a link to your own site at the bottom, and perhaps a little bit about yourself too. Another option could be to write posts that link to each other in some way. Such as both sharing your favorite blogging tips, for instance, and then linking to each other’s sites at the bottom. Or, for something a little different, how about doing a box swap? The idea is you set a price, say $20 each, and send each other a selection of items to review. These could be beauty products, foods – basically anything – you can agree on what types of things to send beforehand.
4 – Offer resources
Studies have shown that by adding useful resources to your blog, you can double your traffic. The reason for this is because by providing a service, you will have more interest in your site. You may not feel like you have anything to offer, however, if you’re about to write a blog then you have useful information to share. The most popular resources tend to be ones that offer help about blogging. This is because there are thousands of bloggers who want to learn how to improve their sites.
For instance, what a lot of us bloggers choose to do is turn some of our most popular posts into ebooks. These can be put together for free and then published on your site. Effectively making it easier for your readers to access content that will help them to improve their blogs. Another resource that you could consider offering is online workshops. This isn’t something that’s for everyone. However, if you’re confident enough to go on camera, it can be a great way to boost the traffic that your site is getting. Should your workshops become popular, you could even charge for them.
5 – Talk about products from other countries
Earlier, I mentioned being active on social media during the night as well as the day. To ensure that you’re reaching as many people, in as many places as possible. Now, to make your blog interesting for people from various places, you need to make sure that the content is relevant. This means producing posts that not only appeal to people from your country, but also from readers from abroad. For example, say you run a beauty blog. As well as reviewing products from your own country, consider reviewing items from other countries.
Many bloggers who have invested in Korean beauty products, for instance, have boosted their blog traffic and reach. This is because they’re offering diverse content that attracts readers from all over the world. To review products from other countries, you may need to look at international shipping services and postage rates. This is so that you can work out if shipping products from other places is doable for you, in terms of cost. Of course, as your blog progresses, brands should be willing to send you products, but to start off with you will need to foot the cost.
6 – Make your titles appealing
Last but not least, it’s crucial to ensure that your blog titles are what we call ‘click-sexy.’ This means that they’re interesting and eye catching. You see, the more unique a title is, the more likely people are to click on it. Of course, knowing how to create catchy titles can be tricky, but in time you’ll get the hang of it. If your titles are basic ones that have been used time and time again, you will struggle to increase blog traffic. That’s why it’s important to take your time over titles. Sure, the content is important, but without a good title, no one is going to read it.
The best way to come up with a click-sexy blog title is to start off with a basic one. So, let’s say you want to talk about advice for winter skincare, your initial title could be ‘Keeping Dry Skin Healthy This Winter’. It says what needs to be said, but it’s not exactly what you would call catchy, is it? Play around with a few ideas and see what you can come up with – you may find using a blog title generator helpful. Try to make the title more niche, such as ‘Could Coconut Oil Be The Answer To Banishing Dry Skin For Good?’. It’s more topic specific, which makes it more appealing to the reader.
